Journey to the West is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature written in the 16th century by Wu Cheng’en. This novel is a mix of myth, folklore and religious elements. It has had a profound impact on Chinese culture and literature.
The story follows the journey of the monk Master Sanzang from the Tang Dynasty. He's on a mission to travel to the West, which is India, and retrieve the scriptures.
The Main Characters: Master Monk Tang Sanzang is accompanied by four disciples.
First is Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, a powerful monkey with incredible strength and the ability to transform into various beings. He started as a rebel but was later subdued by Buddha and assigned to protect Xuanzang.
The second being Zhu Bajie, the Pigsy, a pig-like creature with a gladness and lazy nature, who serves as comic relief but is also a loyal companion.
Then there's Sha Wujing, a calm and wise figure depicted as an ogre in Liushahe River.
Lastly, we have Bailoong Ma, White-Loong Horse, originally a Dragon Prince. By the way, Loong means Chinese dragon, which is considered a holy and wise creature adored by many. He was transformed into a white horse as punishment and served as TangSanzang's steed.
